Purchasing a new septic system for an initial install or replacing an aging one is a large investment you don’t want to have to repeat in the near future. To make sure you get the results you want for your home, there are several questions to ask your septic contractor before the day of install. - What does the initial estimate/quote include? Depending on the contractor you choose, permits, commercial-quality materials, and a licensed electrician may or may not be included in your quote. Make sure you ask what’s included early on, so there aren’t any surprises when you get the final bill.
- Are overages for materials, permitting charges, and the unexpected covered? In some cases, overages for materials or permits are covered by the contractor, but in some cases, they’ll cost you extra. Make sure you read the fine print on your agreement to know what to expect.
- How will you handle any warranty work? Your septic contractor may take care of any needed warranty work, or they might send in a third party to do it. You should also ask how long your new system is expected to last.
- Is your company licensed and insured? It’s not worth the risk to work with a septic company that doesn’t have general liability insurance and workers’ compensation insurance.
- Will the design and installation of the septic system affect my landscaping or the look of my home? How your new septic installation affects the look of your property can affect your home’s resale value over time.
